Every figure on Zoloth comes from a published source. This page lists those sources with their publishers and licences, and explains how we turn them into pages you can rely on.
How each figure is labelled
Next to every figure you'll see the period it covers, its source and one of these labels:
- Reported: Figure the source published for this place.
- Historical: Historical figure (for example Census 2011); things may be different today.
- Calculated: Worked out by this site from the cited sources (sums, averages, distances).
- Estimate: Modelled or satellite-based estimate; treat it as approximate.
- Wider-area figure: Figure for the wider area (block or district), shown for context; it isn't this place's own figure.
- Listed: Shown only where it applies (a listing, award or programme membership).
- Verified by editors: Added or corrected by an editor, then checked.
How places are matched
We identify places by their Local Government Directory (LGD) codes, the official codes of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. When a source gives names instead of codes, we match names within the same block and district and publish only the matches we're confident about. Elections held before the current panchayat boundaries are matched to today's panchayats by name. To look up any code yourself, read how to find your gram panchayat and LGD code.
How distances and nearest facilities are worked out
Distances are straight-line distances from a reference point of the panchayat to each facility, which we calculate from published coordinates. By road it can be further. These figures are labelled "Calculated".
Block and district figures
Some data, such as health survey results, is only published for a district or block. We label it clearly so nobody mistakes it for the panchayat's own figure.
How often data is updated
Each source has its own cycle, from directory mirrors that update daily to the Census, which comes once a decade. We refresh pages when sources publish new data, and every figure shows the period it covers. Corrections our editors have verified are kept across refreshes.
What we leave out on purpose
We never import caste, religion or individual beneficiary data. Gender and education of elected heads appear only as totals for a block or district.
