Most families in and around Shirpur North mix small-scale farming with livestock, local trade and seasonal wage work. Since July 2026, VB-G RAM G (which replaced MGNREGA) guarantees each household at least 125 days of work a year on village works such as ponds, roads and plantations. The gram panchayat issues the job cards, and wages go straight into bank or post office accounts.

Administration

Under the Bihar Panchayat Raj Act, 2006, Shirpur North is run by its elected Mukhiya, the Up-Mukhiya and the ward members. The Gram Sabha, made up of all adult voters, approves the yearly plan and the list of scheme beneficiaries. The Panchayat Secretary sent by the Sugauli block office keeps the family register, the accounts and the birth and death register.

Every gram panchayat in Bihar has to form 6 committees: Planning, Co-ordination and Finance Committee (chaired by the Mukhiya), Production Committee, Social Justice Committee, Education Committee, Public Health, Family Welfare and Rural Sanitation Committee and Public Works Committee. The Gram Sabha has to meet at least once every three months. It goes over the accounts and approves the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), which is then uploaded on eGramSwaraj. Any voter of the village can attend and ask questions.
