About Tarawan Gram Panchayat

Tarawan (तरवा) is a Gram Panchayat (village council) in Tarwa block of Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh. Land and revenue work goes through Lalganj tehsil, and the district is part of the Azamgarh Division. Its Local Government Directory (LGD) code is 48383.

The Gram Pradhan and the panchayat secretary are your first contacts for the family register, birth and death records and MGNREGA (now VB-G RAM G) job cards. Income, caste and residence certificates come from Lalganj tehsil; the steps are in the citizen services section below.

Azamgarh district’s One District One Product (ODOP) is Black pottery. If you work in this trade in Tarawan, you can apply at the District Industries Centre for ODOP margin-money loans, training and toolkits.

As in most of rural Uttar Pradesh, people around Tarawan live mainly off farming (wheat, mustard and pulses in the Rabi season, paddy, maize or sugarcane in the Kharif season, depending on the area), along with dairy and job guarantee wage work. Since July 2026 that’s VB-G RAM G, which replaced MGNREGA: a household with a job card from the gram panchayat can get at least 125 days of paid work a year. Farmers can sign up for PM-KISAN and a Kisan Credit Card through the block agriculture office or a Common Service Centre.

Administration

Tarawan Gram Panchayat is run by an elected Gram Pradhan (village head), an Up-Pradhan and ward members. Every adult voter in the panchayat’s villages is a member of the Gram Sabha. The Panchayat Secretary (Gram Panchayat Adhikari), posted by Tarwa block, keeps the day-to-day records and registers births and deaths.

Every gram panchayat in Uttar Pradesh has to form 6 committees: Planning and Development Committee (chaired by the Pradhan), Education Committee, Construction Works Committee, Health and Welfare Committee, Administrative Committee and Water Management Committee. The Gram Sabha has to meet at least twice a year (after the Kharif and Rabi harvests). It goes over the accounts and approves the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), which is then uploaded on eGramSwaraj. Any voter of the village can attend and ask questions.

In the Panchayat Advancement Index 2023-24, Tarawan scored 64.4 out of 100, ranking 10th of 88 panchayats in Tarwa block (well ahead of the block average of 55.6). 2023-24ReportedPanchayat Advancement Index (PAI 2.0)

That puts it in the "Performer" band (Achiever 90+, Front Runner 75–90, Performer 60–75, Aspirant 40–60, Beginner below 40).
